On the Road Again: Athlete Switchfoot

It looks like Switchfoot is going out on the road again on their new Up In Arms Tour, with special guest, Athlete. I love me some Switchfoot. My wife and I recently were able to catch them in Atlanta to celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary. Lots of fun (she finally got to see Mute Math perform live on that same little weekend trip). I’m sure most of you have heard of Switchfoot, so you know what they do.

Athlete, will be doing the opening honors, which is an awesome band to check out from across the pond. The last and only time I was able to catch them live was when they were opening up for Switchfoot on their Nothing is Sound tour. They played an outdoor gig at Stubb’s BBQ in Austin, Texas (great BBQ, and great place to catch a live show… miss it). They released an album last year that I have yet to check out, but I’m sure it’s good.

The show they put on at Stubb’s definitely sealed the deal for me. They sounded great, and were engaging, and didn’t mind poking a little fun at themselves as well. They pulled out neat little electronica and synth effects and just had an all around good time on stage, which translated to everyone else.

What first turned me onto Athlete was a song titled Wires from their Tourist album. Great song about his little girl being born and the complications they went through. They put on a great live show, and I would love to be able to catch both of these guys live again. (The only Florida dates are in Estero and W. Palm Beach… not close to Tallahassee at all)

During this tour Switchfoot will be also partnering with To Write Love on Her Arms some info from the band about that:

We are pleased to be partnering with a wonderful philanthropic organization for this tour: To Write Love On Her Arms. TWLOHA began in Orlando, FL in February 2006 and is a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for those struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire, and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery. We’re very happy to support such an important cause.

Check out wires and the tour schedule. Is anyone in the area and going to be able to check out this show?
