Isn’t It Ironic, Dontcha Think?

by Samuel Febres

This post is just too funny and ironic not to read.

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the last couple of years, content distributors such as Viacom, movie studios and record labels have been suing the crap out of people for their alleged copyright infringements by posting or sharing songs online, youtube, or anywhere that content providers aren’t getting paid when they think they should.

Well, in a nice turn of events, it looks like Viacom, parent company of VH1 has won the Blue Ribbon for ironic DMCA takedown notice on youtube.

In a nutshell, some guy running for office created a non profit promotional video using light sabers and weird stuff to get votes and uploaded it to youtube.

  • VH1, on a program they air called Web 2.0 junkies, found the video, aired it on their show, much to the amusement of the politician.
  • Because his video was aired on the show, the politician decided it would be cool to write about it on his blog, so he uploaded the video to youtube for all to see.
  • Viacom didn’t appreciate him using their video without their permission, so they issued a DMCA takedown notice to youtube.

See the irony?
