The band is great, straight-forward, in your face Rock and Roll music. Great musical writing and lyric writing. If you haven’t heard any of their music before, you can check out a video from their last album here and listen to a few tracks from their last album here.

I’m really enjoying this album this far. It feels a little bit short, but it’s definitely a great album to pick up. If you act fast, you should be able to pick up the album on for only $7.99. I think Target is also selling it for $7.99 or you can pick it up at Best Buy for $9.99 with a special 30 minute DVD (this was the one that I picked up).

I’m loving the single for the album (which is actually from a previous album) called Feel Good Drag. It’s a pretty driving song.

His name is Kenna.

I first discovered/heard about Kenna by downloading a free single offered by as part of their Free Single of the Week (check out this week’s by visiting the site and clicking on the Free single of the week ad in the far right side-bar). The single was called Out of Control(State of Emotion). I loved this single a whole lot and ended up putting it on a few burned CDs so I could listen to music in the car while driving around.

Despite liking the single, I never really remembered to check out Kenna’s work until a few weeks ago when I was reading through a book called Blink (thanks Ross. Sadly I’m still not done. I need to take a holiday to finish reading through it).

In the book, the author mentions how Kenna had been discovered by some prominent people in the music business and they all felt he would be next big thing, however when the marketing department got a hold of his work and sent out his album to radio listeners to see how well it would work on radio, it didn’t do so well in their tests. They explain some reasons for this, but for me (part of what decision making and what the book is about), it reminded me about this artist that I need to check out.

So, I hit last.fm and grooveshark.com and listened to some Kenna. I loved it all. The music is great and different. It wouldn’t work for radio because it’s unique to the majority of what’s out there, yet still a bit familiar. Let’s face it, radio music is sad and pathetic in general. The same tracks, sounds themes over and over again but this guy breaks the mold and while he has his own unique style, it all still flows well together. If you’re someone who’s looking for new music, you owe it to yourself to check out Kenna. His last album is called Make Sure They See My Face. I picked it up on and I LOVE it.

Kenna, born Kenna Zemedkun, is an Ethiopian-born American musician. The eldest son of an immigrant family that relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio (and later raised in Virginia Beach, VA), Kenna began to express an interest in music upon receiving a copy of U2‘s The Joshua Tree.

Check out Kenna’s newest album, Make Sure They See My Face on . You will not be disappointed in this album. Too many great tracks available to enjoy.

Anyway, they’ve got a new album out today called The Bird and the Bee Sides. If you’re a fan, definitely head on over and check it out on to download or head to your local music retailer.

This album includes 26 tracks, so in terms of tracks to dollars, you are definitely getting your money’s worth.

Jon Foreman, Switchfoot’s front-man has recently been putting out a collection of EPs titled after the four seasons. Fall and Winter have been released already, but Spring has finally Sprung and is now available for purchase. If you haven’t checked out these albums, I highly recommend you do. They’re great songs with a different feel than what you may be accustomed to with Switchfoot’s music.

Have you ever had such sweet and peaceful sleep that you wake up in the morning and your soul/spirit is worshipping GOD in song? I had that on Monday morning and it really set the pace for the rest of the day. I was very greatful for that peace and rest because yesterday was quite the busy day at work, and has continued to be that way even today, and looking that way throughout the rest of the week.

The song I found my spirit singing Monday morning was a new ones off of Jon Foreman’s new Winter EP titled White as Snow. Specifically, it was the chorus to which goes:

Would you create in me a clean heart, oh GOD?
Restore in me the joy of your salvation.

I have really enjoyed this album, and I’m not the acoustic album enjoying type of guy.

Aside from White as Snow, the album contains five other songs titled Learning How to Die, Behind Your Eyes, Somebody’s Baby, I Am Still Running, and In Love.

I Am Still Running is definitely a 5-star favorite for me musically and lyrically, and so is In Love for the Asian feel of the song.

If you didn’t know about this album, head on over to itunes and sample the rest of it, and just get it. This one is definitely worth the money. Thanks to my pal Juni for the birthday gift that facilitated this album purchase.

I was really looking forward to checking this album out but once I did, I really felt let down by it. Maybe I’m being a little hard on DC*B because of the quality they’ve put out in the past, but these songs felt lyrically weak and musically a bit too sugary pop.

If you’re looking into getting into the David Crowder Band, I not recommend this particular album. While there are a few good tracks (The Glory of It All, Never Let Go, and Rain Down (mostly for the intro) and Surely We Can Change), it doesn’t compare to the uniqueness and creativity they created in A Collision, and Illuminate before that (I’m not big on the bluegrass, I missed B Collision)

I’ve had a chance to listen to the album and it’s definitely a must have if you haven’t picked it up yet. You get to hear Jon’s vocal sprinkled with only an acoustic guitar and a little bit different instrumentation than what you would normally hear on a Switchfoot album.

This week’s Artist of the Week is more Theme oriented since there is no one particular artist but a variety of artists that are on a special edition disc of Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack. I assume the reason/theme is obvious.

The artists are doing their version of some of the more popular songs from the movie. Two songs are identical but done by different artists. I think it’s neat to see their different interpretations. I also find Sally’s Song by Fiona Apple to be exceptionally beautiful.

This is one of my favorite movies and a nice little trivia to know about it is that it took over 3 years to create. It was created using stop motion animation, which means that every frame of the movie was shot one frame at a time. That means that for 1 second of the movie = 24 frames, or 1,440 individual “snapshots” to equal one minute of film. That is amazing to me.

This week’s Artist of the Week is needtobreathe.

Hailing from South Carolina, this rock outfit consists of four members, brothers Bear and Bo Rineheart on guitars and vocals, Seth Bolt on the bass, and Joe Stillwell holding down the rhythm on the drum kit.

I was introduced to this band by my lovely wife, Natalie, while on our honeymoon last November; it makes for a nice soundtrack for the memory.

Needtobreathe has a new album coming out very soon (September 24th, 2007) called The Heat. In celebration of that album, here a few tracks from their last album, Daylight.

It’s been quite a while since the last Artist of the Week, so without further delay, I bring you Mae with their most recent album release, Singularity. This album was released August 14th of this year on Capitol Records. This is their 3rd Studio release and 4th album (Destination B:Sides was a remix album of sorts).

Andberlin – “Godspeed”

So, yeah, it’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve done a regular Artist of the Week Feature. My apologies. I haven’t had the time, and haven’t quite found an artist I have been interested in featuring. I’m looking over some old CDs for bands that probably haven’t gotten the attention they deserve and I’ll be sharing those shortly. Also, it takes me a little while to convert the sound files to quicktime .mov files. I do this to protect myself and the artist.

If I post an mp3 up here it’s easily downloadable by everyone and their momma. I want people to support these artists by going to their shows and buying merch (where the majority of artist really make all their money) as well as buying their albums and songs. Also, I don’t want to become some crazy RIAA (Vampiric monsters that they are) target that’s why you “cannot” download any of the .mov files either. Anyway, all that to say is that it takes time, and I haven’t readily had it.

Anyway, moving on and back to Anberlin. Their newest CD is called Cities and it’s not too Shabby. I’ve inlcuded 4 songs from that album for your listening pleasure. It was released Feb. 20th of this year on Tooth and Nail Records. Also, they’re from Florida, what isn’t there to love?

I’ve included track 2,3, 8, and 12 from the Album.
I particularly like the last track. It’s kinda “anthemic” and the chorus probably echoes how many people within and without the church probably feels about those in the church, or maybe just in general. It’s sadder to me when it’s coming from the church.

I say yes, absolutely. This album is super funky and definitely worth checking out. It has tight melodies, harmonies, and grooves and you won’t be able to just sit still to while you listen unless you’re a statue.

It’s got a few softer, lovey dovey songs that the chicks will dig, but I’m currently prefer faster funkier stuff right now. I’m dubbing them Neo-Rock-Soul (Kinda like 4th Avenue Jones and their Hip Rock Soul)

I had the fortune of seeing them on their last tour before they “quit” because my beautiful girlfriend (now wife) and sister bought me a ticket to a show in Green Bay, Wisconsin of all places. I wasn’t able to make the Jacksonville show when they came through Florida, so, because they love me, they decided to send me to Wisconsin to check them out. I had the pleasure of having Natalie (my wife), Keren (my sister) and Pierre (my best friend) accompany me for the weekend trip and it was one of the coolest trips I’ve ever taken.

Wisconsin is cold in November.

I hope you enjoy these “old” tracks. If you only listen to one, please make sure it’s the last one, that song is one of my most favorite songs ever. The end of the song, is actually the end of another song of theirs that they always played last at the end of every show. I thought it was fitting for their last album, on their last song, that they did this.
